Organizations miss out a great deal when the exiting employees do not provide honest feedback for whatever reason!
Leadership could be greatly helped by the honest feedbacks, and onus is upon them to come up with robust systems and processes for exit interviews.
It was his last day at work and he was walking towards the HR Office with heavy steps and said , “ Ma’am what is the last formality left to be done “ and she says “ Fill the exit Form “
She hands over the exit form and tells him to fill properly and wherever he needs help , he can consult her in between !
He kept filling the details and then finally that column comes “ Reasons to leave the organisation or feedback to Improve “ ?
He felt very Confused because inside he wanted to write alot of things which were real but he couldn’t call a spade a spade !
What he really wanted to write :
⏺️A Rude Manager who micromanaged
⏺️No promotion in his span of 4 years
⏺️No Increment in his span of 4 Years
⏺️No Proper solution to issues raised
⏺️Zero work ethics , integrity and culture
⏺️Management taking a regular U- Turn
⏺️A weak HR intervention
⏺️No Proper Policies in place
His thoughts took a turn inside his mind ,
if he will write all the truth then his :
⏺️Full and Final settlement will get delayed
⏺️He May not get the experience letter
So after all he filled the column with few lies:
⏺️ Its a wonderful organisation
⏺️ Great experience working here under
the leadership of great leaders
⏺️Moving for my personal growth
In the end, the true value of an exit interview lies in its authenticity, but creating a space where honesty thrives is no small feat. When departing employees hold back, they aren’t just protecting themselves — they’re often reflecting a deeper truth about the workplace culture they’ve experienced. For organizations to unlock the full potential of these final conversations, the focus should shift from just collecting feedback to cultivating trust long before the goodbye. After all, it’s not what’s said during an exit interview that reveals the most — it’s what’s left unsaid that often holds the key to future growth
