Transitioning to an HRBP role? These are my top five things to keep in mind:

1) Be very clear about what you should and should not do as an HRBP. People will have ideas based on their perception of HR and HRBPs. Set clear expectations for your role and partnership.
2) Build strong relationships. Being a successful HRBP heavily relies on establishing trusted relationships with leaders, considering both in-person and online interactions as well as cultural nuances.
3) Embrace data. Utilize data to validate your assumptions, eliminate biases, identify trends, and gain deeper insights for your partners.
4) Understand the team you support. The better you comprehend their business, challenges, and pain points, the more effective you will be in coaching and challenging your business leader.
5) Stay updated on employment law and foster a strong working relationship with the legal team; this will significantly improve your employee relations skills.
