The day HR stops mentioning, “Reason for leaving” as “Better Opportunity” is the day it will start looking at root cause of attrition.
Attrition is a factor of 3 things
1. Connect — no emotional, intellectual, or psychological hook (Team, Manager, Mission)
2. Communication — I create reality because I am not communicated reality (Negative influencers can create an “illusion of majority” where everyone starts believing what they hear)
3. Career — I don’t see myself going/growing anywhere while staying here
“Compensation” People look out and naturally get better compensation. And then compensation appears or becomes the reason to leave. It’s mostly an outcome when people don’t receive the first 3!
Retention by matching an offer is keeping someone alive on steroids. It’s a matter of time before they feel the lack of Connect, Communication, and Career Growth and the loop continues.
